Yeah, I am actually missing the episodes of ‘The Riches’. The last episode ‘The Lying King’ of the series was aired on April 29, 2008 and it brought The Riches to an end. The fans hoped for the third season of series but FX network representatives made it clear that The Riches season 3 would never happen. Later, in an interview given to a private channel, Eddie Izzard said that the creators would continue the storyline through a movie version. Well, no more news about movie version has come out yet. Let’s see whether it ever returns in form of a movie or it all was nothing more than just rumors.

Anyways, yesterday, I watched the second season of The Riches’. Let’s talk about the episodes aired during the season. The season opener was entitled ‘The Last Temptation of Wayne’. The second episode was entitled ‘Friday Night Lights’. Here, we saw Wayne dealing with Dale and Pete. We also saw that Nina was being held hostage by a couple in Blunt, Texas. Next episode in row was entitled ‘Field of Dreams’. In the next episode ‘Slums of Bayou Hills’, Dahlia figured out that it was not as easy to live honestly as she had initially hoped.

Then we watched the episode entitled ‘Trust Never Sleeps’. The episode showed Dahlia struggling with the same issue, living honestly.   On the other hand, a visitor at the work surprised Wayne. We also saw Cael meeting with another group of Travelers. In the sixth episode of the season ‘Dead Calm’, we saw Cael and Rosaleen getting closer to each other. On the other hand, Nina threw a party for Jim.

And, the episode which brought an end to the second season of ‘The Riches’ was entitled ‘The Lying King’. Though it was aired in form of a season finale, the episode didn’t have what it is required for an episode to bring a season to an end. The story is not finished yet and that’s why we people need more episodes of ‘The Riches’. Well, it doesn’t seem possible, but yeah, a tiny possibility of The Riches movie exists.

Hey, Eddie Izzard is a transvestite in his real life. And, it’s the only reason which made the writers to portray Sam, the youngest son of the Malloy family, as a cross-dresser. Throughout the run of the show, Sam was often seen wearing the clothes of girls. Eddie always describes himself as “executive”, “action” and “underground” transvestite. He likes to be called as a female tomboy or male lesbian instead of a ‘weirdo’ transvestite. His craze (or lust, whatever you take it as) is not limited to stage only but the man also cross-dresses regularly off-stage.

Why does he do so? Eddie himself explains it. As per his words, cross dressing has never been a sexual thing for him. It’s his inclination which urges him to wear what is intended for women only in the community he’s a part of. And, let me drop another bombshell! Eddie Izzard has great “ache for” breasts. And, in order to fulfill so, our man wears false breasts occasionally. Whose breasts are they? Actually, during the shooting time of ‘The Avengers’ those breasts were made for Uma Thurman’s body double to wear. Don’t know whether the body double made use of those or not but yeah, Eddie’s been using them .

Well, Eddie has axed all the claims that he’s a male homosexual. He clarifies it by saying that he’s not a male homosexual but is “a lesbian trapped in a man’s body”. Yesterday, I read the interview of Todd Stashwick, the man who portrayed the character of Dale Malloy on ‘The Riches’, given to some private website. He played the cousin of Dahlia Malloy, with a violent and impulsive temper. His relationship with Wayne was not good for a long time period. Following are the abstracts from the interview Todd gave, while shooting for the indie film ‘To Be Friends’.

The first question which Todd was asked was “Were You Always the Funny Kid?’. His reply was that he was not an athlete so had to do something to grab the attention of the girls. He added that after watching ‘The Muppet Show’, he discovered that making others laugh, is one of the most impressive things. Another important question was ‘Did You Love Your nasty character on ‘The Riches?’. Todd said that ‘yeah’, he liked being bad. Todd also admitted that the cancellation of ‘The Riches’ left everybody sad.

Todd Stashwick also gave signs of a movie version of the series. He said that a movie version, which Eddie has plans of, would surely help to wrap up the loose ends. Well, there are no confirmed words on the movie version of ‘The Riches’ yet, would let you know as soon as anything comes out, officially.

‘The Riches’ ran for two seasons only and the not-so-good ratings brought the show to an end. Some campaigns were started by the fans to get the show back, but it never returned. As of now, ‘The Riches’ is over but it’s really hard for me to spend my Tuesday evenings without ‘The Riches’ episodes. When series was on air, I never skipped any episode. I was really very annoyed when they decided not to bring one more season of the show and decided to cancel it. Ahhh… but we had to accept it. Yesterday, I downloaded the finale episode of first season entitled ‘Waiting for Dogot’.

In this episode we saw that The Malloys family found itself in several difficulties and also made some hard decisions. Visitors were still arriving and neighbors were prying. They really came with a fantastic finale and really it made us to waiting for something. I think everyone was sure about what Pete could do after he came to know about Wayne. Things also started getting complicated when Dalia’s friend Nina snooped around. Yep, adding Grandma to show was also a very good twist. ‘The Riches’ means the riches and they must remain riches and so they came with the same richness in the following episodes of series. I was also thinking that they’d set up Pete with Nina, but it didn’t happen.

Whatever, it gave a good end to the first season of series and really made us to wait for second season. Second season was also very much liked by viewers’. Seven episodes were aired during the second season of series and all were good. Although it was liked very much by the viewers and it had a strong fan base but still series was cancelled after two seasons. People still download ‘The Wire’ episodes and of course, me too.

Finally, after much deliberation, FX has cancelled the series. The series have had a short span. ‘The Riches’ had just completed its two seasons, after which it has been called cancelled. The reason behind the cancellation of the series is its falling ratings. The series started in 2007, when it had a decent fan following. But, in the very next season the rating started falling and the season was even shortened down to seven episodes and it ended in April.

The series starred Oscar nominee Minnie Driver and comedian Eddie Izzard. The two were paired as a couple. They played the role of parents of a family of gypsies who move into a wealthy suburban Louisiana neighborhood under a new identity. Though, the series was not very well accepted, especially by the critics, but still people were interested in watching the series. And that was the main reason the channel took few months to come to the final decision.

Well, I am not very happy with the channels decision. I used to love the series and I have seen each and every episode of the series. I used to love the series for one basic reason that it was different from the rest and that it had some meaning to it. Plus I used to love watching Driver and Izzard. Together they both made a beautiful pair and their acting was commendable. I seriously think that FX should reconsider its decision of canceling the series. There are many more like me who love to watch ‘The Riches’.

Great news buddies! Wayne Malloy and Dahlia Malloy got nominated as the Best lead actor and the Best lead actress in the Emmy this year. Great man! Although, Eddie Izzard playing Wayne is already a two Emmy winner and I didn’t know that he is also the co-writer of ‘The Riches’. On the other hand Minnie Driver playing Dahlia Malloy was nominated once for Emmy and once for Academy award, but couldn’t win any. Hey, I am pretty hopeful for Eddie, as he has won Emmy twice and he is a great writer as well as a great stand up comedian.

At least, I am impressed by this multi talented man and my vote goes to him. You know, the character of Sam Malloy, the youngest son of Malloy couple, is based on Eddie’s real life as the stand up comedian. Eddie used to dress up like girl on stage to create humor and Sam’s character on ‘The Riches’ does the same thing.

Well, the couple looks cool on the show and I was amused to know that it is for the first time that an on screen couple from the same show has been nominated for Emmy for the best actor and best actress at the same time. Otherwise, hardly one character from a show is nominated. I can understand the reason; actually the couple is the strength of the show. Although the show is not very popular but still Wayne and Dahlia as a couple is everybody’s favorite. Eddie and Minnie both have solid roles in the show.

Eddie is at ones a confused and a cunning man. He himself decides to take the identities of dead rich couple to lead a normal life rather than nomadic life that they have been leading. He keeps struggling for doing so, as staying honest is not so easy. On the other hand, Minnie plays the role of drug addict woman who has just got out of jail. She acts it like real life character. I am very impressed by her acting in that show. She marks her presence felt in every episode and acts very naturally. I wish all the best to the couple for an Emmy for The Riches.

I know the show was not a very big hit as per ranking or public opinion. But I am the one of few fans of the show. I found the story line quite interesting and different from the ongoing shows on the TV. In fact I think the show is very fine combination of comedy and drama. It has right balance of everything.

The season two concluded last month, and here is no news about the third season, whether it will come or not. Today I read on IGN that show producers, Nicole Yorkin and dawn Prestwich are moving to ABC fantasy series ‘Captain Cook’s Extraordinary Atlas’ as consulting producers. Now this generates speculations that they may be going there but still they will have enough time to work on ‘The Riches‘ or either they won’t return with the new season of The Riches.

Well, until any official news come regarding the cancellation of the show, I can be positive and can hope for the best. But seriously I will miss this show. From the last season, the two episodes are my most favorite. One is ‘Slums of Bayou Hills and the second is ‘Trust never sleeps’. These are my favorite because of the basic idea they contain is that honesty is easy to adopt but it’s difficult to make it perpetual.

Well, before coming to review season 2 finale ‘The Lying King‘, let’s talk about WGA strike’s effects on season 2. Unfortunately, second season was cut short by the strike and believe me if strike had not happened, then, second season could have delivered more. More episodes- means, more fun, more enjoyment and more laughter. But, what to do? Thank god, as strike is finally over.

Very frankly, episode was not what I had initially expected and series didn’t quite end in the way it should have. As the second season wraps up, Wayne and Dahlia discovers something like growing gap in their family and their relationships and this rift is continuously getting wider. After the accident at the construction site, Bayou Hills deal is hanging by a thread.

With Dahlia’s breakdown, Di Di rises against her father. And her relationship with Ike blossoms. Meanwhile, Cael decides to stay at Rosaleen’s camp. Episode, as well as the season ends with the words “I have your son“.

Okay, if season three comes, and I hope it will, then, I’d expect Quinn/ Wayne to play a greater role in it. Clearly, entrance of Wayne’s mafia muscle was the best part of the Bayou Hills construction story. On the whole, the episode was good but was not like a season’s finale. I had more expectations from it, which remained unfulfilled; hope season 3 will do that. .
