As of now, ‘The Riches’ is over but it’s really hard for me to spend my Tuesday evenings without ‘The Riches’ episodes. When series was on air, I never skipped any episode. I was really very annoyed when they decided not to bring one more season of the show and decided to cancel it. Ahhh… but we had to accept it. Yesterday, I downloaded the finale episode of first season entitled ‘Waiting for Dogot’.

In this episode we saw that The Malloys family found itself in several difficulties and also made some hard decisions. Visitors were still arriving and neighbors were prying. They really came with a fantastic finale and really it made us to waiting for something. I think everyone was sure about what Pete could do after he came to know about Wayne. Things also started getting complicated when Dalia’s friend Nina snooped around. Yep, adding Grandma to show was also a very good twist. ‘The Riches’ means the riches and they must remain riches and so they came with the same richness in the following episodes of series. I was also thinking that they’d set up Pete with Nina, but it didn’t happen.

Whatever, it gave a good end to the first season of series and really made us to wait for second season. Second season was also very much liked by viewers’. Seven episodes were aired during the second season of series and all were good. Although it was liked very much by the viewers and it had a strong fan base but still series was cancelled after two seasons. People still download ‘The Wire’ episodes and of course, me too.

Finally, after much deliberation, FX has cancelled the series. The series have had a short span. ‘The Riches’ had just completed its two seasons, after which it has been called cancelled. The reason behind the cancellation of the series is its falling ratings. The series started in 2007, when it had a decent fan following. But, in the very next season the rating started falling and the season was even shortened down to seven episodes and it ended in April.

The series starred Oscar nominee Minnie Driver and comedian Eddie Izzard. The two were paired as a couple. They played the role of parents of a family of gypsies who move into a wealthy suburban Louisiana neighborhood under a new identity. Though, the series was not very well accepted, especially by the critics, but still people were interested in watching the series. And that was the main reason the channel took few months to come to the final decision.

Well, I am not very happy with the channels decision. I used to love the series and I have seen each and every episode of the series. I used to love the series for one basic reason that it was different from the rest and that it had some meaning to it. Plus I used to love watching Driver and Izzard. Together they both made a beautiful pair and their acting was commendable. I seriously think that FX should reconsider its decision of canceling the series. There are many more like me who love to watch ‘The Riches’.

I know the show was not a very big hit as per ranking or public opinion. But I am the one of few fans of the show. I found the story line quite interesting and different from the ongoing shows on the TV. In fact I think the show is very fine combination of comedy and drama. It has right balance of everything.

The season two concluded last month, and here is no news about the third season, whether it will come or not. Today I read on IGN that show producers, Nicole Yorkin and dawn Prestwich are moving to ABC fantasy series ‘Captain Cook’s Extraordinary Atlas’ as consulting producers. Now this generates speculations that they may be going there but still they will have enough time to work on ‘The Riches‘ or either they won’t return with the new season of The Riches.

Well, until any official news come regarding the cancellation of the show, I can be positive and can hope for the best. But seriously I will miss this show. From the last season, the two episodes are my most favorite. One is ‘Slums of Bayou Hills and the second is ‘Trust never sleeps’. These are my favorite because of the basic idea they contain is that honesty is easy to adopt but it’s difficult to make it perpetual.

Well, before coming to review season 2 finale ‘The Lying King‘, let’s talk about WGA strike’s effects on season 2. Unfortunately, second season was cut short by the strike and believe me if strike had not happened, then, second season could have delivered more. More episodes- means, more fun, more enjoyment and more laughter. But, what to do? Thank god, as strike is finally over.

Very frankly, episode was not what I had initially expected and series didn’t quite end in the way it should have. As the second season wraps up, Wayne and Dahlia discovers something like growing gap in their family and their relationships and this rift is continuously getting wider. After the accident at the construction site, Bayou Hills deal is hanging by a thread.

With Dahlia’s breakdown, Di Di rises against her father. And her relationship with Ike blossoms. Meanwhile, Cael decides to stay at Rosaleen’s camp. Episode, as well as the season ends with the words “I have your son“.

Okay, if season three comes, and I hope it will, then, I’d expect Quinn/ Wayne to play a greater role in it. Clearly, entrance of Wayne’s mafia muscle was the best part of the Bayou Hills construction story. On the whole, the episode was good but was not like a season’s finale. I had more expectations from it, which remained unfulfilled; hope season 3 will do that. .

The Riches, a comedy drama series is a dedication to the “Stealing the American Dream”. Series follows a traveling family of con artists The Malloys who live on the periphery of the society and out of the bounds of law. Family runs scams for several years. Wayne Malloy, the father of the family, starts to wonder if it was all worth the effort.

Dahlia Malloy, the mom of the family, has just completed her two years of imprisonment. Dahlia is a drug addict and is impatient to get back on the road with her children and with her husband. Sam Malloy, Cael Malloy and Di Di Malloy, three children of the family are equally disreputable. While they were traveling through the Southland in their RV, they quite unintentionally got involved in an accident. However, it was not their fault but a married couple, died in that accident.

Wayne and Dahlia discovered that the couple was Doug and Cherein Rich who belonged to an upper middle class family and had recently purchased a mansion in a rich community somewhere in Louisiana.

Life takes a brilliant change for Malloys and they become the Riches and move in the above said mansion. With their cunning and hustling skills, they convince their neighbors that they’re who they claim to be.
